We all have our own little bad beauty habit that we hope to conquer for this new year. However, there are many very common mistakes that some may not be aware of. So if you are interested in how to put a stop to these habits and make the most of your makeup keep reading..
1) Adding MORE makeup to cover up imperfections: Many believe that the more makeup you put on = more coverage. This is true but it would not give you the natural effect that is desired.
- Dry skin: The key is to moisturise. A dry face would be accentuated when product is applied on top. You should exfoliate to remove dead skin cells so you can regenerate healthy, new skin cells. This should be done about once a week (with consideration of how harsh the exfoliant is and your skin type).
-Acne prone skin: If you have acne, dont apply your foundation or concealer directly on the blemish this is both unsanitary and could cause further irritation. Instead, consider applying it around the acne because in these areas it is usually red which makes it appear larger than it really is. By doing so, the acne appears smaller and is able to breathe and dry up.
- Fine lines and wrinkles: Try applying a thin layer on your face. Then take a slightly damp sponge and dab it over your entire face and bend towards the neck. This will create that smooth, airbrushed effect.

2) Adding plenty of conditioner all over your head: If you think about this logically, your roots contains the healthy hair that is newly grown so they do not need to be conditioned as much as the ends of your hair which can be easily dry and damaged. Applying too much conditioner by the roots could also weigh your hair down preventing it from reaching its voluminous potential and also make it appear more greasy. Tip: What I like to do is apply all of my conditioner on my tips and apply the remaining product that is left on my hands on the top of my head. I then tie my hair in a bun and perform the rest of my shower (like soap, wash my face, etc) trying to keep my hair away from the water. Then once completed, i rinse my hair. This makes my hair feel softer than its ever been before!

3) Perfume application:
- Rubbing it on is very common especially when sprayed on the wrists. Some say that when you do this you are crushing the perfume's molecules which will lessen the strong scent, because it is "breaking down" the scent. So instead try letting it dry on its own

- Spraying it over your head so that it falls all over your body: This is a no no! Perfume tends to dry out your hair and even weigh your hair down. If your hair isnt freshly washed, it could also change the smell of the perfume when mixed with your natural oils. Best application is on your pulse points (wrists, back of knees, chest, neck...) because it'll be evenly distributed and warmed directly on the skin.
Myth or Fact? Some say that oily and darker skin tones hold on to scents longer than fair, and dry skin. Keep this in mind when deciding how many sprays you decide to use and you might also consider moisturising prior to application.

3) Contouring in solid lines: When people think of contouring, what comes to mind may be clear definition so this could lead to the assumption of using bronzer only at the cheekbones to accent them. However, this will be unflattering and make it more obvious that you are trying to achieve higher cheekbones. A more effective way would be blending the bronzer downwards toward the jawline and upwards to the temples and forehead. This will create an overall tapered look.

4) Using old eyeshadows: I am also guilty of this... but many believe that makeup is good until it is finished. However, eyeshadows especially dont run out for a while since we have so many options that they dont get as much love as say mascara which is used everyday. Therefore, the same eyeshadow could be kept in your beauty bag for years and just accumulate more and more germs. Try tossing some out and start fresh! Out with the old and in with the new :)

These are just a few mistakes that caught my eye, please share if you have any more that you haven noticed as well!
Until next time, xox,
2011 has just flown by! Here are my beauty must haves...
Favourite Fragrance
-Juicy Couture Viva la Juicy. It has just the right amount of floral and fruity scents that creates a very fun and feminine perfume. My biggest pet peeve for perfumes are that they disappear right when the wind hits me, however THIS perfume literally attaches to your clothing and stays put!
So i took just one swipe over all the colours then blended them all together in circular motion from my apples to my temples. and wow.. it really made my cheeks glow!
Brows are my obsession. To me, they determine how polished and put together one looks. Here are some tips that i have been using for the past two years, hope this helps you as well!

1) Take a pencil and align it by the side of your nose: This should be the starting point of your brows

2) Now keep one end of the pencil by your nostril and align the pencil across the center of your pupil: This should be your arch of the brows

3) Keeping one end by your nostril, align it to the ends of your eyes: This is where your brow should end.

Now that you have the general shape, you can begin plucking to your desired thickness!

- If you have feminine, and delicate features stick to thinner brows so that they do not over power your other features. For strong and bold features, thicker brows will match more.

4) With an eyebrow brush, groom the hairs upwards and trim the longer strands for a cleaner, less bushy look.

5) Finish them off by using an angled brush and a shadow that matches the colour of your brows lightly fill in your brows.

Whenever you are having a lazy day the easiest quick fix would be winged liner and bold lips. Desiring this look, i searched for affordable lipstick to add colour to my normal everyday look.
The two i purchased were the Rimmel 082 Heavenly and the 166 Temptation.

Heavenly: Subtle berry, pink shade. Purple lips are getting a lot of hype this fall so i thought i would try it out!
PROS:
-Its different, and i have nothing like it yet.
-Its a wearable way to follow this season's trend.
-VERY affordable ($3.99 + tax CND)
-Add a pop of colour to a makeup look
-Glides on smoothly and doesnt accent dry lips like many lipsticks tend to do.
CONS:
-A bit too light for my taste.
-Not very flattering for my skin tone
-Smudges on items that touch it; drinking glass, napkins, etc.
TIP! If you dont like a shade of lipstick dont fret and throw it away, mix it with other shades! I like to use a lip liner underneath or add a gloss on top. Be creative. For this berry shade that is too light/bright for me i would add a liner under that is 1-2 shades darker to cancel it out OR i put a pink gloss on top so that the pink stands out rather than the berry purple.

Temptation:Classic bright red lip stick. This would be suitable for a night out or formal/semi formal event!

PROS:
-Flattering, and wearable red lipstick. Its hard to find the right red lip stick for your skin tone so be sure to do A LOT of swatches before purchasing!
-Glides on smoothly and doesnt accent dry lips like many lipsticks tend to do.
-Doesnt require a gloss
-Red lipsticks instantly makes your teeth look extra white :P
CONS:
-Smudges on items that touch it; drinking glass, napkins, etc.

I was given the opportunity to do my beautiful friend, Kristine's, makeup for a wedding reception! I am so unbelievably grateful that she trusted me with this important event and I couldn't be happier :)
So this is the trial of the completed look...

Products and tips I used:
-Mary Kay Medium Coverage Foundation. Kristine already has a beautiful complexion so i only added liquid foundation to her t zone, and nose then blended out (TIP: Only apply liquid foundation to problem areas to avoid a thick, cakey feeling).
-Revlon Photo Ready Concealer to any areas that need to be evened out such as under the eyes, under the nostrils and a tad on the chin.
-Mary Kay Mineral Powder Foundation (TIP: For mineral powders, it is best to apply in circular motion).
-Coral, Pink Blush from my Sephora Pallet.
-Pur Bronzer. Contour the cheek bones, forehead, and chin for a slimmer effect.
-Revlon Cream Shadow. Shimmery brown base for the shadows all over the upper lid. (TIP: Cream shadows make powders more vibrant and the pigments will attach to the sticky, cream texture making it last longer)
-Shimmery Grey-Brown shadow from the Sephora Pallet on the mid lid and blended.
-Matte Brown shadow from the Sephora Pallet on the outer v and blended with the grey-brown (TIP: Mixing matte and shimmer will create dimension and drama to the eyes).
-Shimmery White shadow from the Sephora Pallet. Highlight the inner corners and under the brows (TIP: For highlighting, it is best to use a white shadow with hints of shimmer so they reflect and attract light).
-NYX Black Eyeliner and lined the top and bottom lash lines
-Matte Black eye shadow from the Sephora Pallet. With angled liner brush, i set the eyeliner (TIP: This makes it last longer without smudging!)
-Brown shadow and filled in the brows
-Half lashes on the outer corners of the eyes (TIP: Take a normal false lash and cut it in half to get 2 half lashes! Half lashes create a more natural look).
-Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara to blend natural lashes with the false lashes for a more realistic look.
-Finished the look with a coral lip gloss from the Sephora pallet.
Healthy, beautiful hair is a must in everyone's life. It is a well-known fact that washing your hair everyday can strip your hair of natural oils which in turn causes drying. I personally have thin, "silky" hair so my hair tends to produce MORE than desired oils particularly near my roots and bangs. So, washing it every other day didnt seem to be an option for me...
Until i found the Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo.

Its main purpose is to remove 95% of leftover buildup remaining in your hair and scalp from hair products like hairspray, mousses and shampoos&conditioners.
After one wash i noticed my hair was more volumized and it had a shine to it, not a oily/greasy but a healthy shine. This was because there was less residue weighing my hair down. And since my hair isnt pressed to my scalp anymore, my hair no longer produced as much oil as it used to.
I was in awe, that a girl who couldnt even last half a day with her oily hair could be pleased to say that she can wash her hair every other day! woo hoo!
How i use the shampoo:
1) Wet my hair from root to tip
2) Distribute a dollar size amount of product. Focus on roots and under the hair.
3) MASSAGE
4) Keep in hair for about 5 mins.
5) Rinse all product off hair.
6) Condition with a hair mask.
CONS..
However, there is always a down side to every product. For this shampoo it is just the smell. It is a strong formula so it doesnt smell like your typical shampoo. It is very distinct so its hard to describe but it is tolerable so thats fine. And also, after shampooing your hair would have a "squeeky clean" texture to it so i would deeply condition my hair especially the ends just to retain the moisture.
I found the picture and for more info on the product go to: http://www.neutrogena.ca/en/getProduct.asp?cat=6&sub=25&id=76
Let me know if you have also tried this product!
Until next time, xox,
I learned a few quick facts today and i thought that i would share it with you :)
Aging is something we cannot avoid but we all would love to delay it right? So, if we figure out why it appears to be aging in the first place then maybe we could try and avoid these causes.
-As skin begins to age it loses moisture creating visible pores and drier skin. This weakens the protective layer of our skin so it is more vulnerable to environmental harms and free radicals. A great eye cream to try is the Time Wise Mary Kay Firming Eye Cream because it restores this barrier for firmer, more youthful looking skin.

Let me know if you have tried it or want to get in on this beauty must have!
Long, volumized, flirtatious lashes are what most ladies are dying for! And i know how much of a pain it is to see your lashes slowly droop down throughout the day. But heres a simple step to add to your makeup routine that'll work wonders for your lashes!!
-Take your eye lash curler and heat it up with your blow dryer. I would heat it for just about 10 seconds. Test it on your hand to make sure its not too hot (since your eye area is very thin, and delicate you wouldnt want to burn yourself!). Then just normally curl your lashes and apply mascara. This method would instantly give you a longer lasting natural curl.
In my opinion, i wouldnt do this everyday but only for special occasions or those days where you need a pick-me-up. Think about it, you wouldnt want to apply heat appliances to your hair everyday to avoid damage so you also wouldnt want to do that to your lashes!
Try it yourself :)
DIY Treatment.
Hey beautiful!
Great skin is they key to great looking makeup. So if you ask me, who doesnt want healthy and glowing skin? Nobody. Heres my favourite DIY facial mask that helps you achieve just that!
All you'll need...
-1 ripe Banana (Bananas are known to be fantastic moisturisers, anti-bacterials so it helps with blemishes, anti-aging, prevents hair loss+dandruff+frizziness, and MUCH more!)
-1 tablespoon of Honey (Honey has the ability to retain moisture, protect skin from sun, absorbs impurities from the pores, and rejuvenates the skin)

-Bowl and mixing tools
Simple Instructions
1) Mash the banana in the bowl until it is evenly blended.
2) Add the honey to the mixture and continue to blend. The end result would be a mushy paste-like texture.
3) Apply a thick coat onto the face and leave it for about 5 mins.
4) Wash off with warm water and you'll have beautiful, glowing skin!
Try this out and tell me what you think :) If you have allergies or sensitive skin, apply this to a small patch of your skin first to test for reactions.
Until next time, xox,
Dont you just hate it when your favourite shadow/powder shatters and then every time you open it it creates a big mess? Well i found quick and easy ways on how to fix just that!
OPTION 1
First, pour the loose contents of the powder into a ziploc bag. Crush until its a fine powder.
Add 1 teaspoon of aloe vera gel. Mix well.
Place the mixture back into the compact pan. Then place a sheet of paper over the powder and with a anything with a hard surface (coin, book, bottle, etc) on top of it.
Gently but firmly apply pressure down to secure the powder into the compact
Let it air dry.
OPTION 2
Pour loose contents into ziploc bag and crush it.
Add 1-2 drops of rubbing alcohol into the empty pan.
Add about half of the powder into the pan. mix contents.
Add another drop of alcohol then add the remaining powder. Evenly distribute and smooth it across the pan.
The end result should be icing-like so add additional alcohol accordingly.
Wait about 45 minutes for all the alcohol to evaporate. Itll harden.
Then just take any hard object and press down on the shadow.

Its as easy as that! Let me know if you tried it yourself, or if you have other tips and tricks :)
Until next time, xox,
On August 20th I went to my cousins wedding. Not only was I happy for him and his wife BUT i was also excited to do my makeup...
The goal for formal makeup is to make sure it is long lasting, photographs well and its also a chance to try something new, something that you won't normally do on a daily basis.

STEP by STEP:
-face
1) Garnier anti dark circle eye roller to conceal my eye circles and reduce puffiness.
2) Revlon Photo Ready Foundation and used it to further cover my dark circles and any blemishes or red areas (concentrate on your Tzone, around the nose and the chin).
TIP #1: In my opinion, the photo ready foundation works better as an undereye cover-up than the actual concealer. The concealer seems to melt off during the day.
3) MAC Mineral Powder Foundation to set my liquid foundation. Apply evenly to face and neck.
TIP #2: Blending at the neck prevents harsh lines and makes your makeup look much more natural.
4) Sephora Pallet Blush on the apples of my cheeks and blended it upwards toward my temples. I used the dark coral with hints of golden shimmer blush.
TIP #3: Spreading your blush and bronzer to your temples not only helps contour your face but also warms up the look.
5) Pur Bronzer right under my cheekbones, then i blended it up along my forehead close to my hairline, towards my temples then down to the side of my jaw and my chin.
TIP #4: If you want to contour your face with bronzer but you dont know where to properly apply it think of it as a "3" shape along your face. This will be the best cheat for a smaller looking face!
-on to the eyes
1) Urban Decay Primer Potion all over my top and bottom lids so my shadow stays on all day.
2) Revlon Cream Shadow lightly on my top lids. This will be a great additional base for your powdered shadows. I used a nude colour so when i apply the shadows on top, the colour will appear more vibrant.
TIP #5: When using cream shadows, make sure you dont over apply because this will cause creasing throughout the day. Just a thin layer will do just the trick!
3) Lorac Shimmery Eye Shadow in Serenity was applied on my top lids starting from my inner corner and blended to my mid lid.
4) Wales Shadow Pallet. I used a dark brown shadow and applied it on my outer V. I also applied it heavily on my crease and blended it above.
TIP #6: If you want to accentuate your double eye lid, look straight into the mirror and place your brush right at the crease (Your brush should sink in). Use a wind shield wiper motion all along your crease.
5) Wales Shadow Pallet. To warm up the look i used a colour i never use, red! I applied it just above my crease where the dark brown was added and blended the two colours together.
6) Physicians Formula 2in1 Liner.
7) Curled lashes slightly. I cut my fake lashes in half and applied it on the outer lashes. This creates a natural, flirty effect. Its also much, much more easier to apply if you are just starting!
8) Applied mascara to blend together my lashes and the fake lashes.
9) Black liner to tight line my top and bottom water line. This also decreases the obviousness of fake lashes.
10) NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk on my inner corners and under my brow bone to brighten up the look.
-brows
1) Annabelle dark brown eyeshadow and applied it on my brows. (I am currently trying to grow out my brows, so if they look messy bare with me! haha)
2) Took a brow comb to neaten up my brows
TIP #7: Brush upwards then outwards at the arch. This will properly tame them and slightly open up the eye area.
3) Anastasia Clear Brow Gel so that it stays put throughout the day.
-lastly, the lips
1) MAC Lipglass in Underage evenly on my lips.
2) Revlon Lipstick in Just Enough Buff evenly on top of the lipglass.
3) Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in Addiction.
TIP #8: For fuller looking lips, line just outside of your natural lip line. Also highlight the cupids bow with a matte white liner. If you want a more in depth tutorial let me know in the comments!
TIP #9: You may be wondering... uh Kristi, Why are you applying the lip products backwards? Don't most people use liner, lipstick THEN lipgloss? In my opinion, this works the best but only for nude, pale lip combinations. MACs underage was more pigmented than the Revlon lipstick so by adding it first increased the longevity of the lip colour. I am also a big fan of defined yet natural lip liner, by adding it last increased the intensity.
Wow, that was long! I hope you found it helpful. Show me your wedding looks :)
Until next time, xox,
I just watched one of my favourite youtube gurus Lisaeldridgedotcom's video tutorial on "matchy makeup". And i absolutely fell in love with her simple, yet beautiful look! She played up a rusty brown colour on her eyes, cheeks, lips and nails and the result was stunning!!
Check out her video to see what i mean :)
For example, you have brown eyes you my want to use purple tones to bring out your eyes. So you could use dark purple eye liner, highlight with a light lavender, contour lightly with a plum blush, and finish it off with a purple manicure +pedicure. Its that easy!
I just arrived home from a wedding so i was tired, full and lazy. I was also wearing twice as much makeup than i normally do. I was tempted to just lie down in bed and fall asleep... instead i remembered these facts that i will share with you :)
Negatives:
-Sleeping with a layer of chemicals on your face clogs your pores. Pores release our sweat (which removes germs, dirt, dead skin cells, and other substances in the process) and also sebum which assists in moisturising and protecting the skin.
-Could lead to break outs, black outs and/or irritation.
-The longer and more you apply mascara, the weaker your lashes get causing fall out. Imagine, keeping it on overnight!
-Any makeup near the eye could cause infection or red eyes in the morning.
-Cell renewal occurs only while you sleep. So the thick layer of makeup will prevent your skin from fully repairing.
Hope you found this helpful! Take about 5 minutes to properly removing your makeup and cleansing your face :)
Until next time, xox,
They open up the eyes, completes a look and they add a flirtateous glow to the eyes. Unfortunately, not all of us are born with Kim Kardashian lashes.. But do not loose hope! There are many ways to grow your lashes at home. It takes consistency and patience since lashes are the slowest growing hairs on your body but itll be worth it, trust me.
Vaseline(Petroleum Jelly) Method.
1) Curl your lashes. This will help the lashes get used to growing upwards.
2) Use a clean mascara wand and coat it with vaseline.
3) Gently brush it along your lashes, ensuring to start at the roots!
It'll take about 4-5 weeks for a noticable change in length. Do this every night and wash it off in the morning (Vaseline is also a great makeup remover so if you don't wash it off then your makeup wont show up as well as it should).
High Vitamin C and E Diet Method.
These are well known nutrients that trigger lash growth. They also include many other benefits for your skin, and nails!
Eye Lash Serum Method.
I personally use the Physcians Formula 2in1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner and Serum and i LOVE it! Eyeliner is part of my everyday routine so i thought why not use one that also conditions+grows my lashes?! It worked wonders for my lashes, they feel softer and look fuller.
I have also heard of the LiLash purified lash serum. It is known to be the world's "best" serum that fortifies and conditions your lashes. I haven't tried it, but for more info visit http://www.lilash.com/pages/LiLash.html.
Are you tired of looking... tired? Well the main cause of looking tired is eye circles/bags.
I attended a Mary Kay spa seminar and learned a few tips and tricks from Agnes and also my own thoughts that i want to share with you as well :)
If you want to maintain a youthful glow and reduce eye bags its not only affected by the products you use BUT how you apply them!
TIP #1: When applying your eye serum, moisturiser or even concealer be very gentle around the eye area! The more rough you are, the more you are pulling your skin which will give you that saggy, older looking eye bags.
TIP #2: Apply it clockwise around the eyes. Starting from the lids go around to under the eyes making a full circle (See photo). Most assume that starting from the inner corners then outwards because it seems like itll open up that area leaving it brighter. But in reality, it is stretching the under eyes making you look older.
Hope you found this helpful! What are some of your tips?
Until next time, xox,
Waking up knowing you have work could be such a drag. But to make your day a bit more exciting you could experiment with your makeup! This is my look that i created before going to work today. If you want to know how to recreate my eye makeup keep reading!
1. I first primed my lids with a matte beige Revlon cream shadow. TIP #1: This is a substitute for eye shadow primer. The sticky consistency acts as a perfect base for powdered shadows to make them last longer and make the colour appear more vibrant.
2) Using a shadow brush, i took a gold shimmer shadow from my Sephora palette and applied it from the inner corner to the mid lids.
3) I took a dark navy blue shadow from the same palette, and using a crease brush applied it on the 'outer v' of my eyes and blended it with the gold.
4) To make the blue more visible, i applied an aqua shadow on the middle of the lids.
5) I used a blue eyeliner and tight lined both bottom and top lashes.
TIP #2: By tight lining the top lashes, it makes your lashes appear fuller and thicker!
6) I took a Physicians Formula duo black liquid liner and lined the top keeping it as close to the lash line as possible. I increased the width of the liner as i moved closer to the outer lids. This creates the illusion of almond shaped eyes.
7) I curled my lashes, and applied Voluminous mascara to my top lashes and a bit on the bottom lashes.
TIP #3: For thin lashes, you should wiggle the mascara wand at the base of the lashes, then blink! Surprising i know, but this applies an even, thick coat on the lashes without clumps!
8) I took a matte white shadow and highlighted under my brows and on the inner corners of my eyes.
9) I took a clean brush and blended any harsh edges for a softer look.
This was how i styled my hair on a summer lunch date with my boyfriend. To be honest, i am terrible at braids especially if its on the back of my head! So, my wonderful mom helped me with this look :)
Step by step instructions:
1) Start with 3 equal strands of hair at your desired width.
2) Braid like normal; by weaving hair over and under eachother.
3) Before you start the second weave, drop the lower strand and pick up a new strand of hair.
4) Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you get across your whole head.
5) Secure with a bobby pin.
And your done! Its that easy!
This may be confusing to understand in words so check out the many great tutorials on youtube so you can visually see the braiding process :)
I just wanted to do a quick post to express my new found love for Mary Kay products :)
I attended a Mary Kay spa seminar lead by the lovely, Agnes. And truthfully it was amazing! After properly cleansing my face, it has felt unbelievably smooth, and i had this natural glow to my skin. I purchased many drug store and high end products and some dont even work well on my skin. So, i love that i could attend their seminars to not only sample out their products but learn new tips on how to apply the products before i choose whether or not i want to purchase them. They have very affordable quality items, and i cant stress how happy i am that my mom exposed me to Mary Kay's products. So thank you :)
